Symposium: Eat Your Fruits & Veggies?
The Enigma of a Healthy Diet
Please join us during the International Association for Food Protection
annual conference for the 6th Annual Scientific Symposium from bioMérieux
moderated by Michael Brodsky, President, Brodsky Consultants.
The symposium will kickoff with a keynote address from Dr. Michael Doyle, Regents Professor of Food Microbiology and Director, Center for Food Safety, University of Georgia, as he discusses the growing concern of pathogen contamination in fresh packed produce.
Since this is a ready to eat (RTE) product, processors must be very focused on the importance of providing a safe and healthy product to the consumers. Dr. Doyle will speak on the challenges in producing a pathogen free fresh cut product and raise the question whether or not diagostic testing could be a possible
intervention.

How reliable is the data used for risk analysis?
Are we making a mountain out of a mole hill?
How can the risks be mitigated or managed?
What is being done at the various links on the supply chain to prevent contamination: farm, processing, distribution and retailing?
Why is there so much attention to E. coli O157:H7?
What about other pathogens?
Should we be testing for indicator organisms? If so, which ones?
What are the benefits and limitations of routine monitoring?
Is there a role for strain typing?
Is there a better way?
