Advantages of the VITEK 2 Compact over the VITEK legacy system

1. Advanced Colorimetric^TM technology in the VITEK 2 Compact increases the number of wavelengths. More wavelengths enable use of a wider array of substrated, increasing the system's ability to differentiate a broader range of organisms and resulting in an expanded, more accurate database. Cards now have an optimal number of substrates to increase the percentage of one-choice correct answers.

2. Workflow has become even simpler because of increased automation, such as pre-assembled straws in the cards, automatic sealing and loading of cards into the reader and automatic disposal when identifications are complete.

3. Traceability from start to finish is an integral part of the VITEK 2 Compact. Barcodes on the test cards contain information such as lot number, expiration date, product code and a unique identifier number (or accession number). Cassettes that hold the cards also have a barcode number to avoid any transcription errors. using the virtual cassette processed in the reader, CFR 21, Part 11, was an integral part of the design process.

4. Cards are read every 15 minutes, enabling results to be obtained in as little as 2-4 hours, thereby improving product release times.

5. Using the closed system concept from VITEK legacy system, the VITEK 2 Compact continues the tradition of end-user safety and limited reagent use, thus producing less hazardous material needing disposal.
