1. What API products have been updated, and what are their new version numbers?

For the latest API product updates and their new version numbers, please contact bioMérieux Industry technical support at 800-634-7656, prompt 3.

2. How can I look up API profile numbers?

apiWEB is a new software product that gives an automated interpretation on any compatible PC workstation by using our CD-ROM (part no. 40012) or via on-line subscription (part no. 40011).

3. What PC configuration is required to utilize the apiWEB software?

  • Windows NT, 2000 or XP Pro.
  • Internet Explorer Version 5.5 (or later) or
    Netscape Version 7 (or later)

4. How does the apiWEB program work?

apiWEB is rapid and easy to use. Simply key in the numerical profile of the strip in order to immediately obtain an interpretation. The software provides a detailed report that is displayed on the screen and can be printed or even exported as a .csv file (Comma Separated Value) viewable in an excel spreadsheet.

5. What information does the apiWEB report include?

  • a list of possible species
  • comments indicating the reliability of the identification
  • a full biochemical profile
  • additional information (any atypical tests or additional testing required)

6. Is the apiWEB software 21 CFR, part 11 compliant?

Data is not stored within the apiWEB system and there is no electronic record, therefore the software is declared out of the scope of the FDA regulation.

7. Is there any visual guidance that would help me in determining whether a reaction is positive or negative?

Every api test strip contains a color check option in the apiWEB software which provides a full color representation of a typical positive and negative reaction for each test. There is a reading table within the package insert instructions for each test kit that describes the results of each test in words.

8. How do you read the api 50 CH strip?

    a. If the api 50 CHB/E media (part no. 50430) is used:

A positive reaction will change the media color from red to yellow. The intensity of the change in color should be scored on a 5-point scale where 5 is most yellow. Any well that has a score of 3 and above should be considered positive.

    b. If the api 50 CHL media (part no. 50410) is used:

A positive reaction will change the media color from purple to yellow. The intensity of the change in color should be scored on a 5-point scale where 5 is most yellow. Any well that has a score of 3 and above should be considered positive.

*Please see package insert instruction for api CH (50300) for more information.

9 . Can you give me some information of the final reaction (Hyphae/Pseudophae) on the API 20C AUX?

There is a reaction that needs to be recorded on the API 20C AUX. The last (21st) test on the result sheet is labeled "Hyphae/Pseudohyphae". If these are present (refer to your laboratory's microbiological textbook or other published literature) the well should be called positive. The numerical value for this well is 4. This value should be taken into account when determining the last digit of the profile number.
