| St. Louis, MO (October 21, 2006) – More than 6,000 professionals will gather at the Miami Beach Convention Center October 21st to experience the AABB Annual Meeting and TXPO 2006. The meeting, which primarily attracts transfusion and cellular therapy experts, will offer educational experiences with help from bioMérieux, an industrial microbiology and diagnostics company. The company can be spotted by their oversized exhibit booth (#325) where they will display the BacT/ALERT® 3D, an automated microbial bacterial detection system designed to provide laboratories with platelet bacterial quality control testing capabilities.
The automated system provides bacterial quality control testing of leukocyte reduced apheresis platelet (LRAP) units and both leukocyte reduced single units and for pools of up to six (6) units of leukocyte reduced whole blood platelet concentrates. The BacT/ALERT also provides lab professionals with user-friendly, labor-reducing features such as built-in test cell quality control, immediate bottle recognition and rapid response time for microbial detection.
Used in conjunction with the BacT/ALERT 3D are the BacT/ALERT Plastic Blood Culture Bottles. Currently the only company to develop and manufacture plastic bottles in the industry, bioMérieux has enhanced lab safety by minimizing or reducing the chance of sharp exposures and hazardous blood borne pathogens. With only half the weight of glass bottles, the BacT/ALERT plastic bottles offer the same features as glass but with improved safety and decreased waste disposal costs.
“We’re proud to offer highly innovative products to one of our core industries,” said Eric Bouvier, bioMérieux’s North American President and CEO. “We are constantly striving to deliver the most cutting-edge products and technologies to our valued customers in the blood banking industry.”
bioMérieux will host the 2nd Annual Customer Symposium, entitled, “Innovation@Work For Platelet Bacterial Detection Testing” on Monday, October 23rd in Miami Beach. Customers are invited to attend the educational and knowledge based forum at the Ritz-Carlton in the heart of South Beach. The symposium will feature three presenters, including Larry Dumont, MBA, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Dartmouth Medical School; Helen Pleasant, Manufacturing Process Specialist, Blood Systems, Inc.; and Olivier Pasquier, bioMérieux’s Global Product Manager of Molecular Biology. Customers are encouraged to participate in the symposium, and will also be given the opportunity to earn PACE credits on topics including platelet storage, the BacT/ALERT 3D testing optimization, and bioMérieux molecular solutions and innovations.
Visit bioMérieux in Miami Beach, Florida at the AABB Annual Meeting and TXPO 2006 at booth #325. The show will be at the Miami Beach Convention Center from October 21-24, 2006.
