VIDAS® Next Day™ Listeria Species Solution
for Listeria Detection and Selective Isolation in Food and Environmental
Samples Receives AOAC-RI Certification
bioMérieux is pleased to announce the VIDAS® Listeria
Species Xpress (LSX) with Ottaviani Agosti Agar (OAA) for Listeria
species AOAC-RI certification (100501) in selected Meat, Dairy
Samples and Environmental Surfaces. The VIDAS LSX with OAA has
been validated and certified as a Performance TestedSM Method
by the AOAC Research Institute as an effective method for the
detection and selective isolation of Listeria species.
The VIDAS LSX test performed as well as the USDA MLG reference
method for Meat Samples and Environmental Surfaces. The assay
also had equivalent performance with the AOAC 993.12 reference
method for Dairy foods. The bioMerieux OAA chromogenic plates
performed as well as reference method isolation plates (modified
Oxford Agar and Oxford Agar) for confirmation of presumptive results
from food and environmental surface samples. Meat Samples tested
include raw pork, frankfurters, roast beef, frozen raw ground
beef, ham. Environmental Surfaces tested include stainless steel,
plastic, rubber, ceramic, wood, sealed concrete, cast iron and
air filter material. Dairy Samples tested include yogurt, Camembert
cheese, pasteurized whole milk, cheddar cheese, and vanilla ice
cream.
The VIDAS Listeria Species Xpress Solution provides Next Day™
test results for Listeria species using the standardized, automated
ELFA technology provided by the VIDAS system. Results for Environmental
Surfaces are available in about 26-28 hours, while Meat and Dairy
results are available in about 30-34 hours after sampling. These
rapid results provide laboratories with critical information to
ensure the safety and quality of products and the environment
in which they are produced.
The VIDAS LSX Solution combines the use of an innovative media
(Listeria Xpress broth) for optimized Listeria enrichment along
with the VIDAS LSX assay. Both components of the LSX solution
utilize bioMérieux’s know-how in immunoassay and
culture media development. The LX broth functions to reduce lag
time and boost organism recovery. The LSX assay incorporates a
combination of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies, which increases
sensitivity and specificity.
